Master Key Experience: Press Release

“It seems like everything happened in such a whirlwind” Kelly said to me as we sat sipping cranberry kombucha.  “One minute I had two stations, the next thing I know I’ve got thirty – and the imaging they write for me is so fun that it’s always a blast to voice it.  And then suddenly, my voice is what producers are looking for, for political season.  Which is amazing because politicals are so fun to voice.  I mean seriously, I get to be bitchy on mic, have a blast doing it, and they pay me these astronomical fees.  It’s like a dream!

An overnight success?  But it didn’t just happen overnight.  It took over ten years in the business to become an “overnight success.”  And I couldn’t help but ask:  “Is there anyone in particular that helped you along the way?”

Big sigh and an “Oh yeah! There are many, but the ones that stand out are definitely Carl Romey, because he always encouraged me to play full out.  I could be serious or stupid and he was there urging me on to get the best performance out of me that he could.  Dave Walsh is just amazing.  I still having coaching sessions with him, but he pushed me just hard enough to realize that I could play with the big boys.  He gave me knowledge, a better ear, strategy, and courage.  I am so thankful for the courage.  Justin Dove too.  He’s about the most amazing imaging producer I know and he’s the one that gave me my big break into imaging.  He pitched me to the big dogs at his company and then got me into major markets.  He believed in me and he helped me to believe in myself.  There are so many more, but these guys…I just can’t thank them enough.”

She’s the picture of gratitude.  Smiling.  Passing out sincere compliments to almost everyone.

But our time must end.  As she put it, “Gotta jet – political session and I’ve got to get to the studio.”  What I later found out was that the session was for her biggest election yet.  Kelly was voicing for the presidential election.  And she never said a word.
